The UK Motor Industry in your pocket

23 May 2002 #SMMT News

The UK new car market is now the second largest in Europe and Britain is home to more car manufacturers than any other European country. Add in the component and commercial vehicles sectors and it is clear why the industry employs more than 800,000 people. Data on the sector including analysis of employment, environment, taxation and registration figures are included in Motor Industry FACTS – 2002 published today by SMMT.

Produced in conjunction with Lex Vehicle Leasing, Motor Industry FACTS – 2002 is distributed free of charge to the media, MPs, civil servants, academics and other groups interested in the UK automotive industry.

Speaking at the launch, SMMT Chief Executive Christopher Macgowan said, ‘The information contained within Motor Industry FACTS – 2002 illustrates the size and scale of British automotive industry. SMMT exists to promote the motor industry and the information in this pocket-size guide demonstrates the significance of our industry to the UK economy.

‘We’re particularly delighted to be working with Lex Vehicle Leasing on Motor Industry FACTS – 2002, as the company is also the sole supplier of cars to SMMT.’

Steve Hornsey, Marketing Director Lex Vehicle Leasing said, ‘At Lex we are excited about this launch. Our involvement stems from our desire to understand more about where our industry has been and where it’s likely to go. Knowing the facts is what makes the difference between insight and ignorance and this guide is set to become an essential resource.’
