September CV registrations eclipsed by buoyant month in 2001

04 October 2002 #HGVs #Registrations
  • CV registrations down 8.3 per cent at 42,305 in September
  • Second biggest September under the biannual registration plate system
  • Fourth ever biggest monthly total
  • YTD CV registrations up 1.4 per cent at 242,937 vehicles
  • Light CV registrations down 1.7 per cent, but up 4.1 per cent for YTD
  • As expected, significant fall of 35.6 per cent in truck registrations
  • Bus & coach registrations fall 39.3 per cent, YTD  growth cut to 2.2 per cent

‘September’s CV registration volume was well above the totals for the same months in 1999 and 2000, but the remarkably buoyant September 2001 market was always going to be a tough target to better,’ said SMMT chief executive Christopher Macgowan.   He added, ‘the growth trend over the first nine months still points to UK CV registrations in 2002 being equally as good as last year’s total.  But, the CV market is reflecting some of the general economic uncertainty expected for the months ahead and the variability in growth prospects across sectors.’
