ROBOTS BRING 1 JUNE CAREERS DAY TO LIFE

As career day approaches, an interactive, state of the art display entitled `Engineers of the Future’, at Institute of Electrical Engineers stand, hopes to attract is fair share of attention.

Ian Watts of TV’s `Robot Wars’ fame and his team give an engaging demonstration five times a day introducing their audience to the fun side of engineering. Excitement is added to the display with the appearance of `Panic Attack’ the robot who won the second UK series and current UK and world champion `Chaos 2′ whose CO2 power flipper, Ian tells the crowd, can “lift over a ton!” Young faces pressed against the safety barriers got a real buzz from seeing their on screen heroes up close. Robot Wars favourites are joined by the worlds fastest walking robot and Skeltron, a female rope climbing robot with a temperamental attitude.

The stand has been designed to inspire students and families to learn about engineering innovation. Dr Alf Roberts IEE Chief Executive said of the project, “We strive to help nurture and enthuse the next generation of leading professional engineers. What better place to do that than at UK’s largest gathering of motoring enthusiast”.

Careers day is on Tuesday 1st June.

RICHARD BACON TAKES A BREAK FROM RADIO SHOW TO SHOP AT FERRARI

Radio Five Live presenter Richard Bacon took a break before recording his Sunday evening show to visit The Sunday Times Motor Show Live. The charismatic presenter was spotted ‘shopping’ on the Ferrari stand. After checking out the 612 Scaglietti and Challenge Stradale (pictured) he moved on without making a purchase, but was sure to pick up the contact details from the Ferrari representative.

Richard, who is a regular visitor the British motor show, said of this year’s event, “I come every time and it’s always exciting. It’s great for previews of new models and concept cars; they’re what I really like. The interiors on some of them are breathtaking. I thought the Lexus jeep was stunning.”
