29 July 2004 #SMMT News #UK Manufacturing

Vehicle production in the UK has been bolstered as the millionth car, destined for UK buyers, rolled off the production line at Nissan’s Sunderland plant.

Coinciding with the plant’s 20th anniversary in the UK, the landmark 1.4 Micra SE has added to the list of successes celebrated by the manufacturer over the past 20 years. Over 3.6 million cars have been produced on Wearside, with a record of 332,000 Micras, Almeras and Primeras being built in 2003 alone.

One in every five cars built in the UK last year was a Sunderland-built Nissan, with the new Micra now on sale in 45 global markets.

Nissan is the largest UK producer and volumes will be boosted by the launch of the Micra Coupe Cabriolet, to be produced on Wearside next year
