16 August 2004 #SMMT News

The Automotive Academy is to hold a one-day workshop to formulate a wish list for motor industry training. The event will be held on Tuesday 21 September at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole hotel.

More than 150 delegates from car and commercial vehicle manufacturers, coachbuilders and the component and aftermarket manufacturers will discuss training needs and guide the future work of the Academy.

Automotive Academy chief executive, Alan Begg, said, ‘Skills shortages are often talked about and everyone knows how competitive our industry is, particularly with emerging automotive manufacturing countries such as China and India.

‘The Academy will ensure that the UK automotive sector remains competitive by having access to vital skills training programmes which are the best in the world. We want to speak to the industry directly so that together, we can make sure that this vital industry is being supported by the very best training which exactly meets their needs.’
