Toyota’s new £11.2 million training centre will be based in the UK. The E-GPC (European – Global Production training Centre),a 8,000m2 site, will provide skills training in production and maintenance methods to employees throughout Toyota’s European manufacturing operations.

The E-GPC will be located within the grounds of Toyota’s UK vehicle manufacturing plant which produces Avensis and Corolla models. It will open its doors in January 2006 to train up to 1,000 employees each year from their eight European sites.

The E-GPC will deliver a range of courses using specially developed work stations, simulated production environments and the latest maintenance technology to improve and develop key vehicle production skills.

Welcoming the announcement, SMMT chief executive, Christopher Macgowan said, ‘This is great news for Toyota in the UK. It demonstrates the industry’s commitment to training and making sure the workforce is prepared to meet the challenges of the 21st century.’
