19 May 2005 #SMMT News

Jaguar’s Halewood facility has been awarded the JD Power Gold Plant Quality Award for excellence in manufacturing performance in Europe. The success of Halewood, in the annual Initial Quality Study reaffirms the competitiveness of manufacturing plants in the UK.

Halewood, where the X-TYPE is manufactured, was previously Ford Motor Company’s lowest rated plant in the world. It has developed into a centre of excellence for lean manufacturing – a discipline that focuses on elimination of waste, while driving high quality and continuous improvement.

The award was just one of a number of successes claimed by Jaguar this week

The JD Power study, released in the USA, showed that Jaguar also took second place in the overall survey, was awarded highest ranking brand in Europe and also showed massive improvements in the Jaguar X-TYPE.

The 2005 Initial Quality Study is based on responses from more than 62,000 customers of 2005 model-year cars and trucks, who were surveyed after 90 days of ownership.

Other manufacturers who received top honours this year include Lexus who had the highest-ranking model for the Lexus SC 430. Toyota and General Motors, the two largest automobile manufacturers in the world, took 15 of the 18 top model segment awards.
