‘Despite a small drop in the rolling year figures, the level remains well above the long term average,’ said Christopher Macgowan, SMMT chief executive. ‘Registrations slowed a little in February and growth is now past its peak. The latest figures reflect this underlying trend, which began in mid-2005. The introduction of digital tachographs and Euro 4 emission levels may well distort the market in the short term, but we think the growing use of financial engineering for vans will help stabilise the market in the longer term.
