“October’s truck registrations were back to the medium term average,” said Christopher Macgowan, SMMT chief executive. “As the big distortions caused by the introduction of digital tachographs and Euro 4 cleared, truck demand held firm at levels little changed since 2003. Demand for vans is strong and at very high volumes, but heavier vans took an even firmer lead. The rolling year total for all trucks and vans was 384,016 at October, similar to that at October 2006. The UK’s new truck and van registrations should end 2007 very strongly and with bulging order books, 2008 is already looking good.”
