LowCVP Technology Challenge deadline approaching

06 September 2009 #SMMT News

The deadline for the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership Technology Challenge is fast approaching with submissions needed by Monday 7 September 2009.

The Challenge was developed to connect smaller companies with those higher in the automotive supply chain and seeks innovative technologies which could make a significant contribution to reducing CO2 emissions from passenger cars with the goal of achieving or surpassing 80g CO2/km.

Any UK-based organisation can submit its CO2 emission saving concept to the Challenge which is open to all new ideas and concepts. The technology must reduce CO2 emissions from passenger cars, must be commercially deployed in three to five years, must be on the vehicle, and must be integrated easily into the existing transport, energy and fuel infrastructures.

Innovations could range from alternative materials to new powertrain concepts. The best ten innovations will be given the opportunity to present to the LowCVP Innovation Executive, made up of senior executives from vehicle and component manufacturers.

The Technology Challenge represents the type of support needed over the medium and long-term to promote developments in the next generation of vehicles. UK automotive companies are encouraged to take part in the opportunities available to help advance the low carbon initiative.
