Organised in line with the strategic remit of the UK’s Automotive Council, SMMT has confirmed 5 April 2011 as the date of its second ‘Meet the Buyer’ event at The Heritage Motor Centre, Gaydon, Warwickshire.

The event is designed to match OEM and Tier 1 demand with capable UK based suppliers and supports the Automotive Council’s work to strengthen the UK supply chain through the promotion and encouragement of local supplier sourcing from within the UK.

SMMT has now received buying requirements from major OEMs including Aston Martin, BMW, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Jaguar Land Rover, Leyland Trucks and Nissan, which are being matched with suppliers from SMMT’s Automotive Supplier Finder (ASF) directory based on their product or service capabilities. In addition to matching OEMs with Tier 1 suppliers, this event will also match tier 1 businesses, including Aisin,BWI Group, Calsonic Kansai, CAT-Perkins Engines, Faurecia, Futaba Industrial, Futaba Tenneco, GKN Driveline, Koito,Kostal,Toyoda Gosei and Unipart with tier 2 and tier 3 companies.

SMMT’s previous ‘Meet the Buyer’ event in July 2010 resulted in over 90 one-to-one meetings between OEMs and capable UK based suppliers. 89% of suppliers were successful in identifying at least one business opportunity and over a third of suppliers were matched with two to five potential opportunities. The response following this event highlighted serious business opportunities that will help sustain a strong UK supply base.

This April, SMMT is anticipating similar success at Warwickshire’s Heritage Motor Centre, home to the world’s greatest collection of British cars. The event will once again be by invitation only, organised using SMMT’s ASF directory (www.autosupplierfinder.com).

Invites are now being sent to suppliers that match the specified buying requirements. For further information and to view the full list of OEM’s 74 required commodities or Tier 1 suppliers’ 64 required commodities, please contact nhuggett@smmt.co.uk or call 0207 344 1611.
