New Motor Codes website drives subscriber business

17 May 2011 #SMMT News

Revitalising its web presence, Motor Codes has enhanced the online marketing offering for its nationwide garage network, with a new website that encourages greater communication with customers and champions garages that deliver consistently high levels of customer service.

The website, with an enhanced version of the Motor Codes Garage Finder at its heart, will enable the development of a customer satisfaction history across its 6,500-strong network that will be instantly accessible to potential garage customers. The online update heads a renewed drive by the automotive industry self-regulator to develop an easily searchable UK database of garages committed to its codes of practice.

Coming off the back of a rise in subscribing garages and significant growth in traffic to its existing website, the new site has been developed, primarily, to offer the best possible reassurance to motorists of the high standards at garages nationwide, as Chris Mason, Managing Director at Motor Codes explains, “Over the past year, we have gathered feedback from thousands of motorists on service levels from our subscribing garages, through our Code Survey. The best use of this data is to make it accessible to motorists. Visitors to the website using our Garage Finder will notice that all of our garages display customer ratings. This allows people to make an informed choice on where to take their car.”

The focus on customer satisfaction, central to the new website, has led Motor Codes to develop a ratings widget, free to download for all Motor Codes garages, allowing them to display the Motor Codes customer ratings on their own website.

“There is no better form of recommendation than word of mouth”, Chris adds, “and motorists can be confident in their choice of garage when they see a Motor Codes rating on its website. This function adds credibility to our network and gives Motor Codes garages an extra marketing edge.”

As well as a set of satisfaction scores, the new garage profile pages show a rolling feed of customer comments – working as an extension to a garage’s own website, adding an impartial element of customer approval and offering a valuable, free web presence for Motor Codes subscribers.

“The revamped profile pages represent a great opportunity for subscribers to shout about the quality of their business and will evolve over time to include a number of different promotional features. As we develop the functionality, the more use garages make of this personal area, the more they’ll stand out from the crowd.”

Behind the scenes, Motor Codes has aligned its Code Survey – the mechanism that feeds into garage ratings – with the Net Promoter Score satisfaction analytic. Reflecting the customer satisfaction measures used by a number of businesses that work with Motor Codes, this aligns it with the wider retail world and opens up the possibilities for broader analysis of performance.

The growth in public awareness of Motor Codes and its codes of practice is evident in the rising level of traffic to its website – now attracting upwards of 500,000 visitors per year.

“Each of these visitors is a potential garage customer and our new site is designed to drive more business to subscribers and instil confidence in the consumer.”
