“Confidence to buy new vehicles remains low, but the greater fuel efficiency, reliability and durability of today’s buses and coaches is attracting buyers despite the subdued market,” said Paul Everitt, SMMT Chief Executive. “There are pockets of optimism across the sector with almost 50 hybrid buses registered this year, boosted by the beneficial effect of the Green Bus Funds in England and Scotland. The market for big buses and coaches remains challenging following drops from the 2007/08 peaks but the Minibus segment is bucking the industry trend, up 76% for the rolling year.”
