Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has won SMMT’s 2011 Award for Automotive Innovation for its prototype Range_e – the world’s first luxury Plug-in Hybrid Electric 4×4 with integrated V6 diesel engine.

Nigel Stein, SMMT President spoke at the 95th SMMT Annual Dinner on 22 November 2011.

“Support for manufacturing will drive economic growth,” was the message voiced by Nigel Stein, President of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, at the organisation’s Annual Dinner attended by over 850 senior industry figures, politicians and stakeholders.

To celebrate the opening of the £50 million McLaren Production Centre (MPC) in Woking, the company is showcasing its MP4-12C high-performance sports car at SMMT alongside a display about the new facility. The MPC is now the home of McLaren Automotive, supporting up to 800 jobs and manufacturing around 4,000 vehicles by the middle of the decade.

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) reaffirming its commitment to the development of excellence and Engineering. The memorandum outlines the ways in which the two organisations will work together to ensure that JLR engineers remain global leaders in their field with the skills, knowledge and expertise to drive the business forward.

Based on data which is preliminary in some cases, global demand for passenger vehicles (NAFTA: including light trucks) was up 3% in October over the year before, as the uptrend we have seen in recent months continued, and global demand is now up 5% over the year before on the year.
