02 December 2011 #SMMT News

The value of the UK’s £4.5 billion supply chain industry was recently highlighted at a series of SMMT ‘Meet the Buyer’ events, which took place in the Midlands, the North West and Wales  and saw over 100 UK-based automotive supplier companies demonstrate the strength of industry’s supply base.

Designed to showcase the capabilities of the UK’s automotive supply chain industry and encourage more sourcing of locally produced automotive components, the events were attended by approximately 170 automotive industry representatives and saw over 200 one-to-one business meetings take place, involving over 100 UK-based automotive supplier companies.

Just some of the buying organisations which took part in the events included BMW, BWI Group, Calsonic Kansai, Ford, General Motors and IAC Group and feedback reveals that 60% of attendees reported the likelihood of further business engagement.

The events took place throughout October and November at venues in Bridgend, Chester and Melton Mowbray and were supported by the Manufacturing Advisory Service, Northwest Automotive Alliance, Cheshire and West Chester Council and the Welsh Automotive Forum.

SMMT is committed to supporting the UK’s automotive supply chain and it’s ‘Meet the Buyer’ events support the building of a stronger supply chain of Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 suppliers in the UK.
