Be part of the national success story as ‘See Inside Manufacturing’ returns in 2012

02 March 2012 #SMMT News

Following the remarkable success of the very first ‘See Inside Manufacturing’ scheme piloted by the automotive industry last year, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders is pleased to confirm that automotive will again take a central role when the initiative returns with a series of events throughout June 2012.

Supported by the Automotive Council and announced by Business Secretary, Vince Cable, over forty automotive companies took part in the launch scheme last year and the response from everyone who attended illustrates the strengths of UK automotive in inspiring Britain’s bright young talent and informing their teachers and advisors of the challenging, rewarding, and highly skilled roles available across industry.

Looking to build upon the momentum of 2011 and make the scheme resonate still further, companies keen to be involved can register their interest by e-mail to: jharris@smmt.co.uk.

Here are some of the key highlights for the automotive industry from a survey by SEMTA of those that participated in ‘See Inside’ last year:

  • Over 85% of teachers and young people thought the overall event and contact with the automotive sector was excellent.
  • 85% of young people said their knowledge of a career in the automotive sector was better following the event.
  • More than half of all young people would now consider a career in automotive following the event.
  • 82% of teachers likely to advise a career in automotive following the event.

Such was the success of the automotive ‘See Inside Manufacturing’ pilot, Business Secretary, Vince Cable, announced at the recent manufacturing summit, that the scheme would be expanded to include members of the food and drink, and aerospace sectors this year.
