RML hosts See Inside Manufacturing open day

03 July 2012 #SMMT News

The RML Group will hold an open day this week at its Wellingborough facility in support of government’s See Inside Manufacturing initiative and will run in conjunction with National Motorsport Week.

Guided tours will be offered across the facility with key personnel, including project engineers, designers, mechanics and technicians on hand to explain exactly what it takes to design, build and maintain championship-winning cars.

The See Inside Manufacturing initiative was piloted in 2011 by UK automotive for the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, and supported by the SMMT, the 2012 initiative aims to inspire the next generation of UK manufacturing and engineering talent.

Guests will not only be given the opportunity to see sports cars up close, but by viewing each department across the company will gain a better insight as to how such projects proceed from drawing board to completion.

In addition guests can watch first-hand as RML’s team of expert technicians continue the build of the Juke-R – the project which caused widespread interest earlier this year as Nissan unveiled plans to install the GTR powertrain into the shell of a Juke, all undertaken at RML.

Those in attendance can try their hand at the wheel change competition, courtesy of the WTCC Chevrolet Cruze display car. In case it’s ever appeared easy on the TV, they will compete against the stop watch. A race crew will be on hand to set the challenge.
