Toyota shows school pupils the road to manufacturing

08 October 2013 #SMMT News

Toyota has opened up its car manufacturing plant in Burnaston to young people from the local area, giving them a unique insight into the opportunities available to them in the automotive industry.

Running over the last two weeks as part of the See Inside Manufacturing initiative, pupils from nine schools in Derbyshire and Staffordshire took part in various hands-on activities at the firm’s Burnaston plant, which builds more than 100,000 Auris and Avensis models every year.

Tony Walker, Deputy Managing Director, Toyota Motor Manufacturing UK, said, “Toyota welcomes initiatives designed to promote a greater recognition of the contribution and importance of manufacturing to the UK economy.

“The See Inside Manufacturing initiative complements our existing activities aimed at engaging with young people to encourage and inspire them to be the next generation of Engineers.”

A number of manufacturers across the UK are taking part in See Inside Manufacturing throughout October. For details of all the events click here.
