Andy Palmer named new Aston Martin CEO

It has been announced that Dr Andy Palmer CMG will become Aston Martin’s new Chief Executive Officer.

British-born Palmer will join the Gaydon-based luxury and sports car manufacturer from his current position as Chief Planning Officer at Nissan Motor Corporation.

Palmer began his career in 1979 as an apprentice for Automotive Products Limited, before joining Austin Rover in 1986. He started work at Nissan in 1991 and moved to Japan 13 years ago. In recent years, he has been named the automotive industry’s most influential executive by Auto Express magazine, and the world’s third most influential Chief Marketing Officer by the CMO influence survey.

Aston Martin’s shareholder board said, “We’re delighted that Andy will join us as our new CEO at this important time at Aston Martin. Andy’s wealth of experience on the global automotive stage in marketing and sales, engineering and technology, and luxury and brand management will be instrumental in taking Aston Martin forward through its most significant and ambitious period of investment to date.”

In 2013, Andy Palmer gave the keynote speech at SMMT’s International Automotive Summit. He stressed the importance of BRIC countries to manufacturers’ success, and shared his belief that in future years every car will feature electric propulsion of some kind.
