SMMT offers companies support with Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme

05 November 2014 #SMMT News

The Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) is a recently introduced energy audit scheme that from 2015 will be compulsory for all large organisations.

SMMT is able to provide advice to large automotive companies that will need to comply with ESOS, and the SMMT Energy and Trading Schemes (METS) Working Group is currently reviewing the scheme. ESOS applies to your organisation if it meets the definition of a large organisation provided here on 31 December 2014.

All businesses covered will be required to record their energy use, alongside savings or efficiency opportunities the organisation could make. ESOS assessments and reports need to be completed and submitted to the Environment Agency by 5 December 2015 and signed off by a lead assessor – SMMT will be publishing a list of assessors with automotive experience in due course.

Audit data must be provided for a 12 month period including 31 December 2014 and so organisations are advised to put reporting processes in place as soon as possible.

SMMT in association with the RMI and the Carbon Trust has produced a dealer efficiency guide, which provides details on creating an energy action plan as well as useful tips on energy efficiency measures.
