Infiniti announces 300 new UK automotive manufacturing jobs

12 June 2015 #SMMT News

Ahead of the all-new Infiniti Q30 going into production, the manufacturer has now begun recruitment for 300 new jobs at its new Sunderland plant.

The Q30 is Infiniti’s first vehicle to be produced in Europe, following a £250 million investment into the UK facility adding more than 25,000m2 to the existing Nissan Sunderland site. The 300 new manufacturing positions are almost double the 180 jobs originally announced by Infiniti in 2012, taking its Sunderland workforce to almost 6,800 employees and supporting 28,000 jobs in the UK automotive supply chain.

Shortly after the Q30 rolls off the production line, Infiniti will also begin assembly of its new QX30 model. Not only will they be the first premium models to be manufactured at the site, but will also mark the facility’s first exports to the North American and Chinese markets.

Colin Lawther, Senior Vice President for Manufacturing, Purchasing and Supply Chain Management in Europe, said, “Infiniti production heralds the beginning of a new era for our operations in the UK, and the demands of premium vehicle manufacturing requires significant additions to the team.

“It is a fantastic time to be joining the company, as we prepare to launch Infiniti’s first premium compact entry for global markets. In return we’ll be looking for people who share the same obsession for detail and commitment to quality as our highly-skilled workforce in Sunderland.”
