European car registrations rise 9.3% in 2015 following strong December

European car registrations in Europe totaled 13,713,526 units last year, up 9.3% compared with 2014, according to figures released by the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) today. Passenger car demand grew across all five major European markets in 2015. Spain (20.9%) and Italy (15.8%) experienced the biggest increases, followed by France (6.8%) which also posted significant growth. Britain’s market, meanwhile, rose 6.3%, making 2015 a record-breaking year with more units registered than ever before. Germany also saw growth, with a rise of 5.6%.

The year finished strongly, with the overall EU market experiencing a steep uplift of 16.6% in December, with 1,109,927 cars registered, marking the 28th consecutive month of growth. Last month also saw the highest percentage point increase since the market began to recover back in 2013.
