ISO/TS 16949:2009 Quality Management System is the particular requirements of the application of ISO 9001:2008 for the automotive production and relevant service part organisations.

The Goal of this Technical Specification is the development of a quality management system that provides for continual improvement, emphasising defect prevention and the reduction of variation and waste in the supply chain.

This Technical Specification and certification guidance (Rules for achieving IATF Recognition) was developed and is overseen by the IATF (International Automotive Task Force), of which SMMT is a member.

The management of the ISO/TS 16949 scheme is delegated to 5 Oversight Offices, one of which is based at SMMT.
