Latest UK automotive report shows strong economic and environmental performance

Nissan’s record-breaking presence in the UK celebrated at SMMT

The latest exhibit on show at SMMT’s Westminster exhibition space is a celebration of Nissan’s manufacturing presence in the UK. The Sunderland Plant’s 25th anniversary was marked last year with a string of new UK car industry records. 480,485 vehicles rolled off the production line in 2011, the most ever produced by a car plant in the UK, while the number of jobs there also reached an all-time high, with 5,462 people directly employed on site.

UK automotive industry targets all-time manufacturing records

UK automotive manufacturers have set their sights on breaking all-time manufacturing records by the end of 2015. The confidence is fuelled by multi-billion pound investments committed to the country over the past 18 months that will see production expanded, new models introduced and thousands more people employed.

Three-millionth engine built at BMW engine plant

BMW Group is celebrating today as the three-millionth engine has been produced at its UK engine plant at Hams Hall, near Birmingham. The power unit – a 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine – will be despatched to the MINI plant at Oxford, destined for a car to be built for the emerging Indian market.

Vauxhall commits to UK manufacturing at Ellesmere Port

Vauxhall today confirmed that it will invest £125 million to continue manufacturing at its Ellesmere Port plant in Cheshire, creating 700 new jobs.

JLR commits extra £1 billion to UK suppliers and creates 300 new jobs

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has announced that it will be spending an additional £1 billion with UK automotive suppliers over the next four years, thanks to continued global demand for the Range Rover Evoque. The company has already sold more than 60,000 Range Rover Evoque models globally.

UK engine investment set to create hundreds of new jobs

JCB, the world’s third largest manufacturer of construction equipment, today announced plans for a new £31 million engine development project in the UK that will create around 350 jobs across its Midlands and Wales plants.

Vauxhall’s vote of confidence in UK supply chain generates €230m worth of business
