115,706 new cars registered in November, an increase of 1.7% on lockdown-hit November 2020 and -31.3% below the pre-pandemic five-year average as semiconductor shortages constrain supply.
Plug-in cars represented 28.1% of market in November, with 21,726 battery electric vehicle registrations and 10,796 plug-in hybrids.
SMMT calls for commensurate targets for charging infrastructure rollout, with just one on-street public charger currently installed for every 52 new plug-in cars registered in 2021.

New SMMT analysis reveals that the number of battery electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles potentially sharing a standard public charge point deteriorated from 11 to 16 vehicles per charger between 2019 and 2020.
Only one new charger is currently being installed for every 52 new electric vehicles registered, with cars that can be plugged-in now accounting for one in every six new car registrations.
SMMT calls for commensurate targets for charging infrastructure rollout to ensure all can have the confidence to make the switch to zero emission motoring.
