From 1st January 2010, there will be significant changes to the vehicle registration application process: V55 documents and their electronic equivalent, AFRL.
A new regulation on CO2 from cars has been approved by the European Parliament and Council: Article 8 of the Regulation (EC) No. 443/2009.
Its objective is to set emission performance standards for new passenger cars.
This regulation states that from 1 January 2010, each member state shall record the following information for each new passenger car registered in its territory:
the manufacturer (this needs to be captured as per Article 3 of Directive 2007/46/EC);
its type, variant, version;
its specific emissions of CO2(g/km)
its mass;
its wheel base; and
its track width
