The Regulation and Compliance Unit monitor member performance under SMMT New Car Code of Practice or the SMMT Code of Practice for Mechanical Breakdown Insurance Schemes ( MBI Code ).
As part of this role the Regulation and Compliance Unit offers an impartial conciliation service to assist consumers if they are involved in a dispute with a member in relation to a provision of the SMMT New Car Code of Practice or the SMMT Code of Practice for Mechanical Breakdown Insurance Schemes.
The Regulation and Compliance Unit assesses conciliation cases impartially on the information provided by the consumer and member and advises accordingly to reach a satisfactory and fair outcome for all parties involved. If this is not achieved, the case can be sent to a legally binding arbitration hearing. In the event that we cannot directly assist in a case, the team will always offer the consumer advice on the best way to progress the matter.
