Customs and Tariffs Group
The group’s purpose
The Customs and Tariffs Group focuses on the rules and regulations which affect all companies involved in international trading. This forum brings together SMMT’s in-house expertise with that of our member companies to assess developments, share knowledge and understanding and build common industry positions. The Group maintains continuous dialogue with HM Revenue and Customs, national government and the European Commission on trade policy.

Useful information and links
The Market Access Database is a free, interactive, easy to use service that allows you to identify the duties and taxes relevant to your products, provides information on trade barriers which may affect you in different countries and gives you access to the Exporter’s Guide to Import Formalities on a product basis simply be entering the HS code or product description. Market information and trade statistics are also available. Click on the link to access the EU Market Access Database.
The Technical Barriers to Trade Agreement (TBT) tries to ensure that regulations, standards, testing and certification procedures do not create unnecessary obstacles.
