Odette standards and recommendations

The Organisation for Data Exchange by Tele-Transmission in Europe (Odette) acts as an impartial body identifying, agreeing and documenting standards and recommendations for improving the efficiency of business to business communications between trading partners in the automotive industry. Odette aims to drive out costs and improve efficiency throughout the Supply Chain. Technologies covered include EDI, Automatic ID/Barcode Labelling and CAD/CAM, particularly in the area of logistics, engineering, purchasing, finance and e-business.

Odette also acts as a point of liaison between the automotive industry and other bodies to ensure automotive requirements are supported. By standardising and rationalising these functions all parties can achieve major cost benefits. By reaching across international borders, it offers benefits to companies that operate internationally as well as those whose business is domestic.

Odette operates through national trade organisations in each participating country. In the UK, SMMT coordinates Odette work involving UK-based representatives of vehicle manufacturers and suppliers who collaborate to develop European initiatives and address the needs of the UK.

Odette publications are free to SMMT members. For a full list of all Odette standards please go to the Odette website or send us an e-mail. If you are a non-member wishing to purchase any of these standards, please contact memberservices@smmt.co.uk.

One of the latest recommendations is OFTP2, known as the Odette System of Coding and Registration (OSCAR). It assigns worldwide unique codes to any commercial or technical business entity that needs to be identified in exchanges between industry partners. For more information, please go to the OSCAR website.  If you would like to view the list of trading partners to establish OFTP2 communications, click here.
