Commercial Trailer Association

The Commercial Trailer Association (CTA) deals with trailers over 3.5 tonnes gross weight and represents the interests of trailer makers trading in the UK.

The CTA has its own constitution and council and works in partnership with SMMT, subscribing to its policies and procedures.

The CTA gives a forum for the informal exchange of views on issues about the trailer business in the UK and its relationship to truck, bodybuilder and component industries. The CTA also acts as a forum for discussion of subjects of mutual interest with other transport industry trade associations such as the Freight Transport Association (FTA), Road Haulage Association (RHA) and Special Original Equipment (SOE).

The CTA is the UK representative for the Comité de Liaison de la Construction de Carrosseries et de Remorques (CLCCR), the European level group of national trailer making and CV bodybuilder associations. CTA also provides the technical secretariat for the CLCCR.

The activities of the CTA include:

  • Representing trailer makers interests to the UK, European and world-wide governments,
  • Providing essential technical information and regulatory advice to the industry,
  • Business statistics and market information,
  • Informing and consulting on legislative developments,
  • Offering competitiveness improvement programmes.

The CTA also promotes members business through export and other market opportunities by offering:

  • Discounted space rates at the CV Show and input into the organisation of the show
  • Input into the strategy and planning of exhibitions
  • International trade opportunities
  • Free entry

The CTA is run by a Council which meets three times a year. The Council elects a president and deputy from amongst its members. All CTA member companies are invited to attend these meetings.
