Hydro Fluoro Carbons

The Hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) Working Group no longer has Working Group status. It is now The Hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) Interest Group. Documentation no longer appears on the website.

The HFC Working Group tracks, and seeks to influence as appropriate, the following key issues:-

  • development of a registration scheme for refrigerant handlers as a result of the qualification requirements in EC Regulation 2037/2000 on ozone depleting substances (ODS) and the forthcoming EU Fluorinated Gas (F Gas) Regulation (HFCs, PFCs, SF6);
  • the European Commission’s development of the forthcoming F Gas Regulation as it relates to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from mobile air conditioning; and
  • the UK Automotive Air Conditioning Industry Declaration Of Intent On The Use Of HFCs (voluntary agreement with government).

Additional ad-hoc groups are convened as needed to deal with specific issues as they arise.

The HFC Working Group reports to and is annually reviewed by the Environmental Policy Committee. Full SMMT members may apply to join the group.

A ‘one page’ synopsis of meetings is published in the monthly Technical Bulletin which is available to all SMMT members on this site.

Group correspondence is available to members in the restricted area of the site or as distributed by the Working Group secretary.
