Manufacturing Environment Working Group

The Manufacturing Environment Working Group is involved with work in the following key areas:

• Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC) and PPC in the UK
• Solvent Emissions Directive
• Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) in paints (including vehicle refinishing paints)
• Process guidance notes for PPC, LAPC and the European BREF Notes
• Waste management
• Producer responsibility for packaging waste
• Landfill Directive/Regulations
• Environmental management systems such as: ISO14001, EMAS and risk based regulation.

Additional, ad-hoc sub-groups are convened as needed to deal with specific issues as they arise. The Manufacturing Environment Working Group reports to and is annually reviewed by the Environmental Policy Committee. Full SMMT members may apply to join the group.
