Recall Co-ordination Working Group
Motor Codes provides secretariat for the Recall Co-ordinators Working Group to ensure that any groups involved in recalls, (the DVLA, Vehicle Inspectorate, manufacturers and importers), have the option to be included in any discussion and decision making process regarding recall operation practices and the Code of Practice.
The Working Group meets to address the many issues surrounding the effective conclusion of a recall campaign. At present, recall campaigns often achieve a 90-95% completion ratio.
The Recall Co-ordinators Working Group consists of SMMT member representatives responsible for safety issues. The Code of Practice on Vehicle Safety Defects was first produced in 1979 by SMMT in conjunction with the Vehicle Inspectorate.
The Recall Co-ordinators Working Group is open to SMMT members who are involved in safety issues.
At present, the Working Group is addressing the issue of raising recall completion through increasing the awareness and distribution of recall information.
The Working Group produces the Code of Practice on Vehicle Safety Defects which can be obtained by members of the public, on request.
