LGV trainees can pass using automatic gearbox

04 January 2013 #Top Stories

Trainee LGV drivers will soon be able to take their practical tests on trucks with automatic gearboxes.

The Driving Standards Agency has announced the plans alongside new legislation which does away with specifications on what transmission types may be used. At the moment, all vehicles presented for testing have to have eight forward gears.

Unlike car drivers, those LGV drivers who pass using an automatic system will also be able to drive a truck with a manual gearbox.
