Commercial vehicle registrations rose by 8.1% in March and 7% year-to-date, with vans continuing to drive the increase as truck registrations fell.

Overall, 48,675 CVs were registered in March and 78,942 so far this year. With an increase in registrations of 11.5%, vans account for 43,684 of the total for March and 68,882 year-to-date. Truck registrations fell by 15.1% in March to 4,991, and 16.7% so far in 2013 to 10,060.

SMMT Commercial Vehicle Manager Nigel Base said: “Overall CV registrations continue to perform positively with the market increasing 8.1% in March, boosted by an uplift in van demand.

“Truck demand remains weak, but this could be indicative of delayed purchasing decisions ahead of the introduction of new Euro 6 legislation later this year.

“Next week kicks off with the 2013 CV Show at the NEC and this will provide operators with an excellent opportunity to explore the latest models as we welcome a number of high-profile world debuts and product launches.”
