A number of training and apprenticeship opportunities have been announced to inspire recruitment in the CV sector.

In partnership with the Novus Trust and Middlesex University, Yusen Logistics has launched its Leadership Development Programme for senior leaders and to support students working towards logistics degrees. Participants will provide students from seven universities with online briefings, Q&A sessions, mentoring and research support.

Novus operations manager, Bethany Windsor, said, “Novus believes that by providing applied, sector-relevant education, we can recruit and retain superlative graduates for our sector. Our partnership with Yusen, and the commitment from those on the Leadership Development Programme to deliver talks, panels and mentoring, provides an exciting and tangible insight into the profession that is sure to inspire future logistics leaders.”

Meanwhile, reflecting the move to online learning inspired by Covid-19, Pertemps has collaborated with Skills for Logistics to enable HGV drivers to carry out some of their JAUPT-accredited Driver CPC training at home. The flexible course launched by the companies provides a mix of e-learning and classroom-based activities. All drivers will also be offered free enrolment on to the FLOW Logistics Online career development platform.

Finally, Don-Bur has announced that, as part of what it calls a long-term commitment to retaining critical industry skills, it will be taking on 15 engineering apprentices in 2021. The trailer-builder says that is has already taken on eight apprentices in partnership with NSEG Training Association, covering initial training up to technician level 3 graduate and level 4.

Lisa Blake, Don-Bur human resources manager, said, “Engineering and manufacture relies on skilled associates who may not be readily available without training. The new apprenticeship partnership with NSEG gives us a unique, tailored apprenticeship programme that not only identifies high potential candidates but encourages an excellent retention rate after graduation.”
