South Yorkshire-based Hallam Express has taken delivery of eight new Volvo FH Aero 460 6×2 tractor units in an effort to benefit from the vehicles’ fuel-saving credentials.

Supplied by Crossroads Truck and Bus, the trucks each feature a Euro-6-compliant D13TC Step E engine, producing 460 hp and a peak torque of 2,600 Nm, paired with a 12-speed I-Shift automated gearbox and I-See predictive cruise control to yield sustainability benefits.

The FH Aero’s fuel economy potential is extended through the truck’s aerodynamic design, with the cab 24 centimetres longer than that of the standard Volvo FH.

This specification also includes new technologies that help reduce energy consumption and emissions by up to five per cent and it features Volvo’s Camera Monitoring System (CMS) which replaces traditional exterior mirrors.

The Volvo FH Aeros are each expected to clock up to 160,000 km annually, typically working general haulage duties throughout the UK across the next three years.

In addition, the new vehicles are backed by a Volvo Gold repair and maintenance contract.

Operating from its headquarters in Rotherham, Hallam Express is an established member of The Pallet Network, offering full and part load general haulage, groupage operations and warehousing services.

Its 60-strong commercial vehicle fleet includes both tractor units and rigids.

David Simpson, Managing Director, Hallam Express, said: “Fuel efficiency is paramount in our industry, and the Volvo FH Aero’s advanced design and technology ensure we can maximise every drop.

“This will not only help us cut costs but also reduce our carbon footprint.”
