Drive to Thrive – How to apply

09 October 2024 #Funding and support

Driving a car provides life-changing advantages, from greater career opportunities to personal experiences – but the cost-of-living crisis has contributed to preventing some would-be learner drivers from getting behind the wheel.

With that in mind, Drive to Thrive launched by SMMT and Ben offers funding for up to 44 hours of driving lessons – the average amount needed to pass a test in the UK – for young apprentices in the automotive industry.

The scheme, therefore, supports those who are employed by SMMT members, are aged 17 to 21 years old, and identify as having a disadvantaged or minority background.
