About SMMT

ELV Battery Recycling Sub-group

The ELV Battery Recycling Subgroup acts in any area that affects the vehicle manufacturer’s compliance with the EU Waste Battery Directive and the Waste Battery and Accumulators Regulations. The ELV Battery Recycling Subgroup has been created with a view to be incorporated into the ELV WG when memberships of the groups overlap.

The ELV Battery Recycling Subgroup shall comprise representatives from vehicle manufacturers and SMMT only.

The ELV Battery Recycling Subgroup meets after each ELV meeting facilitated at the invitation of SMMT.

The ELV Battery Recycling Subgroup Objectives:

  1. Monitoring, assessing and reporting on activities in relation to handling, collection, treatment, recycling and reuse of waste batteries
  2. Following and influencing development of strategies facilitating development of battery recycling industries in the UK
  3. Sharing experience on generic, non competitive issues arising out of the Waste Batteries Regulations implementation
  4. Liaise with stakeholders involved in development, transportation, processing, and recycling of waste batteries.
