The End of Life Vehicles Working Group acts in any area that affects the vehicle manufacturer’s compliance with the End of Life Vehicle Directive.
The ELVWG group shall comprise representatives from vehicle manufacturers and SMMT only. Third parties, including government bodies, may be invited to ELVWG meetings to discuss specific agenda items.
The ELVWG meets quarterly facilitated at the invitation of SMMT.
ELVWG Objectives:
a) Monitor, assess and report on activities in relation to the ELV Directive compliance.
b) Agree and develop policy and provide responses to UK government and/or Agencies on proposals for legislation, guidance or voluntary commitments.
c) Share experience on generic, non-competitive issues arising out of the ELV directive implementation.
The End of Life Vehicles Working Group has been formed to:
•provide and empower a competent negotiating team that represents the industry.
•handle discussions with government concerning all aspects of the End of Life Vehicle Directive implementation into the UK.
The End of Life Vehicles Working Group responded to the government consultation paper in October 2001 with a comprehensive plan for UK implementation. The group meets in order to consider an appropriate response to:
•issues around the replacement of restricted materials listed in Annex II of the Directive
•recyclability calculations for Type Approval
•meeting recovery/recyclability targets in 2006 and 2015
•issues around the network of Authorised Treatment Facilities (ATF)
•the economics of depollution and treatment, defining negative value
•reporting and information
Additional, ad-hoc sub-groups are convened as needed, to deal with specific issues, as they arise. The Working Group reports to the Executive Committee and is annually reviewed by the Environmental Policy Committee. Full SMMT members may apply to join the group. A ‘one page’ synopsis of Group meetings is published in the monthly Technical Bulletin, which is available to all SMMT members on this site. Group correspondence is available to members in the restricted area of the site or as distributed by the Group secretary. For further information please e-mail techwgweb@smmt.co.uk
