Annual production to hit all-time record of two million vehicles in 2020, beating former 1970s high.

New figures released today by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) confirm the growing strength and vitality of the UK automotive industry and its ascendancy as a major global player.

Based on results, which are preliminary in some cases, passenger vehicle sales for the global new car market in September were up around 4.7% from the year before.

Two thirds of small manufacturers in England feel that increasing sales in the UK will be the source of future growth for their business, according to the latest Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS) Barometer. The advisory body attributed positivity in the sector to the millions of pounds that have been invested in the UK automotive industry so far this year.
