Describe the work that Transaid does?
Transaid transforms lives through safe, available and sustainable transport across sub-Saharan Africa. We have active or recently completed projects in 13 countries, delivering life-saving solutions through road safety and access to healthcare. Our road safety projects encourage drivers, governments, and training institutions, to share knowledge and build capacity at national, regional and global levels, creating sustainable change.
Our access to healthcare projects ensure people in rural communities can reach life-saving services when they are most needed. This includes establishing emergency transport systems and strengthening health supply chains. By combining our technical expertise with our local and corporate partnerships, we are able to deliver practical, scalable transport solutions.
How important are your industry corporate partners?
Our corporate partners are key to the success of our programmes, between the wealth of knowledge they can share, to their involvement in our events. The unrestricted funds we receive from their membership and fundraising efforts allow us to test new projects that will improve road safety and access to healthcare, paving a way for us to bid for external funding to further build capacity. We are grateful to have such wonderful support from each of them.
Tell us about the Transaid charity events that people can get involved with?
We have numerous opportunities for people to get involved in our fundraising efforts this year. Two cycle challenges will take place: the Isle of Wight from 14-17 May, and Tanzania from 17-26 September. Having participated in several cycle challenges before, I can personally say these events are truly unforgettable and a great shared experience with colleagues from across the industry.
For our football fans, we have the fourth annual Transaid Cup on 9 July at Ilkeston Town Football Club, hosted by Microlise and Libra Europe. This 7-a-side tournament brings together teams from across the transport and logistics industry. Plus, for runners, we have a team participating in the London Royal Parks Half Marathon on 11 October.
There are a few spaces remaining for each event, so do not miss your chance to be involved. We are also delighted to have been chosen as the beneficiary charity of the Motor Trader Commercial Industry Awards, plus many other awards events across the year.
What will Transaid have on its stand at the CV Show this year?
Several members of our team will attend the CV Show this year, and we’ll have a group of our ambassadors helping us to run our stand. We’ll also be bringing along one of our bicycle ambulances, which are always a fascinating talking point and a great way to explain the work we do around access to healthcare.
How important is the CV Show for Transaid?
The CV Show provides a great opportunity for us to connect face-to-face with members of the transport and logistics industry, and it’s been a key date in our calendar for as long as I can remember. We use it as an opportunity to strengthen existing partnerships and engage new supporters, whilst also showcasing the impact of our current projects and demonstrating how the sector’s expertise makes it all possible.
