About the Czech Automotive Industry
Czech Republic has a strong automotive industry with over 1.45 million cars and commercial vehicles produced in 2024 – up from 1.2 million in 2022. The country has a powerful network of OEMs and Tier 1/2/3 suppliers:
- OEMs Škoda Auto, Toyota, Hyundai, Tatra (trucks) and IVECO (buses) with both Škoda and Hyundai producing EV models
- Tier 1 suppliers present include Bosch, Continental AG,Denso (Liberec), Magna International, Lear Corporation, Brano Group, Motorpal a.s., Valeoand ZF
The automotive industry is a key driver of the Czech economy, accounting for 9% of GDP, 26% of manufacturing and nearly a quarter of Czech exports. Approximately 20% of all private investments in R&D are focused on the mobility sector. 2024 saw U.S. chipmaker Onsemi invest up to $2 billion focusing on intelligent power semiconductors.
The Czech Republic’s strategic location is significant when UK companies are looking at the opportunities as it also offers fast access to neighbouring strong automotive markets Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Poland and the wider Central and Eastern European region.
