SMMT is considering organising activity, likely a Trade Mission, to Türkiye in 2026 (dates and location TBC).
The programme would be designed for automotive companies who already operate in, or are interested in doing business with Türkiye and the wider Eastern Europe and Central Asia region.
About the Turkish automotive sector
Türkiye has a strong automotive manufacturing industry including OEMs (original equipment manufacturers), manufacturing a wide variety of vehicles including passenger cars, trucks, pick ups, buses, minibuses and tractors. Over 1.3 million vehicles were manufacturers in 2024, with nearly 1 million of these vehicles exported making automotive the leading sector for the country’s exports.
As of 2024, the country’s combined automotive production is ranked 4th in Europe and 12th globally. In terms of commercial vehicle production, Türkiye is ranked the 1st in Europe and 9th globally.
There is also a strong supply chain presence in Turkiye, with over 1,100 component manufactures supporting the automotive sector in Türkiye.
The number of vehicles on Türkiye’s roads also continues to grow, with over 23.5 million vehicles being driven in 2023, an increase of over 55% in 10 years,
Aligning with global trends, Türkiye’s automotive sector is shifting towards cleaner solutions, with growing production of electric vehicles and a focus on innovative technologies like connected and autonomous driving, as well as hydrogen solutions for commercial vehicles.
