Semta, the National Skills Academy for Manufacturing (NSA-M), and the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders are working with the Automotive Sector Strategy Group to ensure companies in the sector can access funding to train and develop their workforce.
As the automotive sector is hugely important to the UK economy, with an annual turnover of £46.1 billion, it is essential that automotive companies remain viable. One way to continue to improve your business is to invest in your existing workforce. As Semta has secured £65 million for skills investment from government for several sectors, including automotive, the organisation is well placed to back training programmes for qualified businesses. Who is eligible for the programme
Any automotive business.
Automotive businesses can access the funding in four easy steps:
* Contact Semta to arrange an appointment
* Utilising Semta’s advice and guidance, create a plan which:
Addresses the skills needs of your business
Identifies sources of training to meet your business needs
Helps you access funding to support training activity
* Implement your plan
* In partnership with Semta, evaluate the success of the training you have carried out and consider further skills needed.
Additionally, consider the many qualifications that are eligible for funding. Automotive businesses can access funding for all first NVQ Level 2 qualifications, selected second NVQ Level 2 qualifications approved by the Learning & Skills Council, and any relevant first NVQ Level 3 qualifications. A second NVQ Level 3 must be in Business Improvement Techniques. Also available are apprenticeships for people of all ages, for example Skills for Life qualifications to improve numeracy and literacy skills.
The following companies are members of Semta’s Automotive Sector Strategy Group: Ford of Europe, BMW UK, Michelin, General Motors, Jaguar Land Rover, Rolls-Royce, SMMT, Bentley Motors, Leyland Trucks, Nissan, Toyota, Honda, BERR, and Unite.
