Motor Codes – the government supported regulatory body for the motor industry – announces the nation’s top 50 service and repair garages after three weeks of voting by British motorists

8 March 2010: Motorists in the UK have nominated their top 50 garages in the UK for car servicing and repairs. The top five garages in ten UK regions will now progress to the final voting stage of the national competition to find the UK’s best workshop.
Over 4,000 motorists voted for their favourite local garage and the UK’s top 50 garages can be viewed online at:  Here members of the public can continue to vote in the final public voting stage to decide the top garage per region. The national Golden Garage winner will then be chosen by the Motor Codes panel of expert judges.
The national campaign to find the UK’s best garage, will help consumers feel more confident about their choice of garage, plus will allow reputable garage owners to gain the respect they deserve.  Research by Motor Codes found thatover 14 million[i] motorists feel short changed by their local service and repair garage, but that over 90% using a Motor Codes garage were satisfied.
“Going to a garage can understandably be quite daunting for both men and women. You practically have to be a mechanic yourself to spot when you’re being ripped off by a dishonest garage,” commented panel judge and TV presenter, Vicki Butler-Henderson. “The Golden Garages competition will champion the best garages out there so that motorists can be confident when taking their car for a service or repair.”
Chris Mason, Motor Codes director said, “We had over 4,000 votes from motorists across the country, all keen to shout about great service at their local garage. We’ve identified the most popular garages that received consistently good customer feedback in our top garages per region. Motor Codes is determined to promote the best the service and repair sector has to offer so that every motorist can benefit from fair, honest, quality service.”
Motor Codes operates a self regulatory code of practice for garages across the country ensuring that motorists receive consistently high standards of service. Supported by consumer groups and government, including the Department for Transport, Motor Codes raises standards across the industry and the Golden Garages competition is playing an important part in this process.
