News from Renault:

Specialist timber haulage company, Les Hughes & Son Ltd., has added a new Renault Kerax 460 6×4 rigid drawbar combination to its 10-strong, predominantly Renault fleet. Delivered through Renault Trucks distributor, Border Trucks, it is the first rigid drawbar Renault Kerax for forestry use in the UK.

The new truck is fitted with a specialist aluminium Alumax body and lightweight 8m Epsilon crane. It operates from the company’s base in Newtown, Wales, transporting timber to saw and pulping mills, as well as private residences, across Wales and the surrounding borders.

Tony Hughes, Director, Les Hughes & Son, said: “We have been steadily replacing our fleet with Renault trucks since purchasing our first Landers four years ago. We have been pleased with the Renault Landers but opted for a Kerax as our latest purchase, due to its excellent pulling power and increased ground clearance over tough forest terrain.”

Commenting on the truck’s specialist body, he continues: “Despite the Kerax being a heavier truck, we have worked with Renault Trucks to achieve the impressive 26.2 tonne payload of the Renault Landers by fitting a lighter weight body and crane. We are very pleased with the result – it is an impressive piece of kit!”

Established over 32 years ago, Les Hughes & Son Ltd. is the largest round timber haulage company in Wales. Based in Powys, Wales, the company is an independent, family business, with a fleet of specialist timber haulage trucks. As well as timber, Les Hughes & Son Ltd. also transports fencing from mills to stockists nationwide.

Border Trucks is a Renault Trucks distributor based in Carlisle. Following the success of the new vehicle supplied to Les Hughes, the company is increasing its stock of Renault Kerax rigid drawbars.
