Honda associates gathered in Swindon this week to celebrate the completion of the first production versions of the new Honda Civic Tourer, the firm’s first Civic estate variant in over a decade.

Honda’s European President and COO, Manabu Nishimae said, “More than any other product, the Civic Tourer highlights the ambition, energy, skill and tenacity of our associates. Developed, designed, tested and produced here in Europe, the Civic Tourer demonstrates what can be achieved by our European teams.”

Set for showrooms in early 2014 the new UK-built model boasts CO2 emissions of just 99g/km and class-leading boot space.

The new model comes at a time when UK automotive manufacturing is on a long-term growth trajectory. With more than £2.5 billion UK investment announced by global manufactures this year alone, the future for the sector is extremely bright.

Independent analysts forecast that within the next three to four years, UK car production could break all-time records. The previous peak was 1.92 million units in 1972, but with new models planned, plants expanded and more people employed, the sector is set to pass this level with a landmark two million cars within reach.
