Recycling company Viridor has taken delivery of two Mercedes-Benz Actros trucks to boost its services with West Sussex County Council.
The state-of-the-art 2545 StreamSpace models are powered by 330 kW (450bhp) straight-six engines, which drive through Powershift 3 automated transmissions. Additionally, fitted hydraulic systems control the new Legras walking floor trailers.
Gary Elms, Viridor’s South-West Regional Vehicle and Plant Engineer, who is responsible for a fleet of more than 300 commercial vehicles, ordered the new 44-tonners from Mercedes-Benz’s biggest UK dealer, Rygor, after testing a demonstration unit for two weeks.
“I know from previous experience that Mercedes-Benz vehicles are reliable and fuel efficient,” he said. “With an aspiration to reduce our carbon footprint and become 20% more efficient in terms of the fossil energy we use, fuel economy and lower emission vehicles were an important part of our decision.
“Also key to the order was the dealer support, service network and customer care which has been excellent, as well as a comfortable and well-equipped cab for our drivers.”
Viridor serves more than 100 local authorities and thousands of private sector customers across the UK, from 320 facilities nationwide.
