Kent-based haulier and logistics provider Salvatori has reported “impressive” fuel economy from its latest Euro-6 DAF XF 460 FTG 6×2 tractor units. In service since March, the new units are returning 9.6mpg on average at 44-tonnes GCW on day and night trunking work.
The new DAF XF Super Space Cabs are the first deliveries for the fruit-merchanting and pallet specialist since the mid-1980s.
“The Euro-6 DAF demonstrator turned in some really impressive fuel figures,” said Salvatori Transport Manager Phil Macey. “You can imagine my delight when the new DAF deliveries hit the high-nines, too. I would expect this figure perhaps to rise after they’ve bedded in. What has surprised me, however, is that we’ve been working them hard from day one on day-and-night trunking operations.
“Our drivers absolutely love their new DAF XFs and I think that’s important for productivity. But it also means we’ll hang on to them. Our drivers recognise that our investment in top quality vehicles is an investment in them, too. This, I believe, goes a long way to addressing the driver shortage problem. Giving drivers the right tool for the job provides an incentive for them to commit to a long-term career.”
